A few weeks ago I went to gorgeous Cancun with my boyfriend for a sun-filled vacation.
We stayed at the RIU Palace Las Americas (an all inclusive resort). This was actually our second time staying there and it did not disappoint! The hotel itself is beautiful both on the inside and outside.
We got an ocean-view room and I couldn’t wait to get out to our balcony every morning to look at the gorgeous view. The room and bathroom were nice and clean and I really didn’t have anything to complain about. Some fun touches were in-room liquor dispensers and a lounge area with a TV. There is also complimentary wifi throughout the hotel but it only worked off and on.
As for the food there is a huge buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We would always grab food and then go to the outdoor seating area to enjoy the beautiful ocean view…after all that is why we were there! If you get tired of the buffet there are also several restaurants for dinner that are part of the all inclusive but you do need to make reservations ahead of time. Overall I would say the food was good but definitely nothing special. I could always find something to eat but it was rare that I tried something and really loved it. The one place I did really enjoy eating at was the Fusion restaurant. If you stay at this hotel give it a try! The tapas they brought out in the beginning were so good we actually asked for another plate!
There were several bars on the premises. Most nights we would find ourselves at the inside bar but during the day we would grab drinks at one of the outside bars or at the swim-up bar in one of the pools. The employees were also constantly walking around and getting drink orders from us when we were on the beach (pina coladas for days).
At night there was always some kind of entertainment in the theater room.
The beaches were beautiful but did fill up so I would recommend claiming some chairs as soon as you can!
I love how clear the ocean is in Cancun. I’m not normally a get-in-the-ocean kinda gal because murky waters kinda scare me but I couldn’t seem to get out of it on this trip!
The hotel was also within walking distance of shopping (both smaller local shops and big brand-names) and a bunch of fun places to go out in Cancun! One day we stopped in at Senor Frogs and had a great time!
On our second to last day we decided to go on an excursion that consisted of visiting the Mayan ruins of Tulum, going ATVing, and swimming in a Cenote. The company we went through was Aventuras Mayas. They had lots of tours to pick from that all sounded great!
The Tulum tour was a mixture of a guided tour and time to walk around and explore on our own. It was an amazing mix of stunning views and incredible history.
My boyfriend and I went on one ATV and switched who was driving halfway through. Since it was my first time ATVing I let him go first 🙂 There terrain we rode over was a mix of rocky terrain through the jungle and some moderately flat trails. At one point we even rode into water!
Swimming in the Cenote was an incredible end to our day. It’s definitely something I would recommend to anyone visiting the Cancun area.
Have you ever been to Cancun or stayed at the RIU Palace Las Americas? If so. what did you think?!
