How To Clean Your Makeup Brushes Using The MAC Brush Cleanser

It's not something I'm proud of, but up until a few weeks ago, I had never properly washed my makeup brushes.  I had, of course, heard over and over again that you should be washing your brushes on a weekly basis, but for some reason, I just never got around to doing it.  A few weeks ago that all finally changed, and I decided to stop being lazy and wash my brushes!  I watched a few videos on YouTube to get the basics down and then came up with my own simple way to get the job done.  It worked super well and I definitely plan to use the exact same routine when I *eventually* wash my brushes again.  Read on to find out how you can clean your brushes too!

Here's what you need:
Brush Cleanser - you can find so many videos online that show how you can make your own brush cleanser by mixing a few products that you probably already have around the house.  But considering I hadn't been able to find time in all these years to clean my brushes *period* I knew that I wasn't up for the fuss and wanted to be able to just use 1 product to get the job done.  I looked online and found the MAC brush cleanser.  It had great reviews so I decided to give it a try.
A Bowl - you'll need this to pour the cleanser into.
Cleaning Mat - This isn't a "must have" as I've seen people rinse out their brushes in their hand, but to me, that seemed a little gross and not a step I would want to repeat for all of my brushes.  So I decided to get a $10 mat from Amazon.  For the price, I would highly recommend getting yourself one.
Paper Towels - to lay your brushes on after washing.

SHOP CLEANING MATS

Got all that?  Here's how you clean:
To prep, take the MAC Brush Cleanser and pour a small amount into your bowl.  You'll also want to take your cleaning mat and stick it to your sink.

Now time to get started!  Grab a dirty brush and swirl it through the cleanser until it is soaked through with the product.  Then move your brush onto your cleaning mat and swirl it around until all the gunk seems to be out.  My mat has different sections labeled out for different brushes, so you can go by that, or just swirl your brush all over.

Finally, just give your brush one final rinse under the sink (make sure the water runs clear) and then lay it out to dry on a paper towel.  And that's it!  Super simple and super effective!
